When it comes to environmental responsibility we’re not shy about our stance. We love the earth and are committed to doing our part to lessen our carbon footprint – and we’ve got the receipts to prove it.
- 15% off entire purchase for Smart Trip users
- For every ounce we sell we plant a tree
- Electric vehicle charging station in our parking lot
Being so committed to the environment means we’re constantly thinking of ways we can help and we thought you’d might like to help too. Because you, our customers, are the best on the planet, we know you’re here for this. And gosh darn it, we just love you so much for it. So here’s what you can do; make sure your cannabis waste doesn’t end up in a landfill.
What is cannabis waste?
We’re not talking about the tiny mostly cashed bud that’s been sitting in your pipe all weekend. We’re talking about the containers that so gently protect and contain our precious ganja and ganja products. I.E. Jars, tubes, bags, boxes, etc.
What can you recycle?
One of the best ways to keep something out of a landfill is to recycle it. We reached out to Whatcom County’s very own SSC to get answers directly from the source on what cannabis containers we can and can’t recycle curbside.

Before recycling ANYTHING and putting it in your curbside bin, wash thoroughly and remove labels.
We also reached out to Ridwell, a subscription based recycling company, about recyclables and this was their response:
For folks who use edible gummies, any of that stretchy plastic (if clean) is something we can collect. To clarify, we cannot collect the stiff plastic Ziplocs they come in, but the film on the inside should be good to go… We also have rotating categories where we get to partner with wonderful local community organizations! We’ll be sure to add cannabis glassware and glass droppers to our list of community suggestions.
How to repurpose cannabis containers
Besides recycling, repurposing is a fantastic way to keep cannabis waste out of our landfills. Here are some clever repurposing ideas.
Jars
After thoroughly washing and removing labels, the sky’s the limit! Here are our favorites.
Plants
Glass jars make fantastic homes for starting seeds and growing smaller plants like succulents. And, if you have your medical cannabis license, you can sprout your own seeds to create your personal stash.
DIY Spice Jars
Part of adulting is coming up with your own secret spice blends for a variety of applications. Whether it’s BBQ rub, special toppings for hot chocolate, or popcorn seasoning, get creative and mix a variety of your favorite spices for quick use during cooking. You’ll become a spice bae in no time.
Bonus tip: Mix a big batch and give your favorite concoction out as gifts! Who doesn’t love a good spice blend in a fancy repurposed jar?! Just make sure to label the ingredients.
Organization
It’s not too late to set a New Year’s resolution to get organized! Jars make for wonderful little compartments to house all those little things that end up scattered around in a junk drawer. Think batteries, nuts and bolts, buttons, and stamps.
Salad Dressing
Many of the cannabis glass jars with glass lids are air tight. (Or tight enough.) These make the perfect receptacle for mixing salad dressing. Add a little oil, some vinegar, salt, and pepper and shake it like a polaroid picture. You’ve yourself got a delicious, portable homemade salad dressing that fits perfectly in your sack lunch.
First Aid Kit
Pack your jar with a little travel antiseptic cream, bandaids in a variety of sizes, alcohol wipes, mini scissors, and gauze for the perfect first aid kit that easily fits in a backpack, purse, or fanny pack.
Crafts
Every single one of us became an expert sewer in 2020, right? At least, that’s what it felt like. So now that we all know how to sew a mask, darn our socks, or make a quilt we need a spot to keep all those sewing needles. You know the needles…the ones that you accidentally find in the middle of the night on the floor now stuck an inch deep into the bottom of your foot. Those needles. Well, they fit perfectly into weed jars and will save you a tetanus shot.
Pre-roll Tubes
Believe it or not, these little tubes can be super helpful to squirrel away when you need them. Here are some of our favorite uses.
Fire Starter Kit
A must have for any camper is a fire starter kit. Pre-roll tubes are the perfect size to keep matches and pieces of paper dry. Cut a piece of sandpaper and glue it to the side or top of the tube to ignite your matches and flame away!
Spice Tubes
Speaking of camping, no better way to keep spices fresh and contained than a pre-roll tube. There’s something to be said about cooking deep in the forest with the evergreen air seasoning your stew, but nothing takes your nosh up a level more than a dash of salt and pepper from a cleverly repurposed tube.
Toothpick Holder
No need to be clever here – it’s as plain and simple as the perfectly sized container for toothpicks. You’ll never be caught with a piece of broccoli in your front teeth again! (Unless that’s your thing – you do you!)
The moral of the story is that we need to leave this planet in better condition than we found it. Be a good stoner and do your part to keep waste out of landfills.
