Common Cannabis Myths

By trovecannabis | | Education

It’s 2026. The slate has been wiped clean. It’s time for new adventures, personal growth, learning about cool things, speaking up for and supporting others, and being the best you possible. It may sound all hippie dippy to you, but a new year really is the perfect time to set intentions to set yourself up for success.

In an attempt to start you out on the right foot, we’d like to help with the “learning about cool things” part. So let’s go on a word journey together and talk about the most common myths about cannabis. “Cannamyths”, if you will.

Indica = Sleepy, Sativa = Energy

Ah yes. The classic cannamyth; Indica makes you sleepy while sativa gets you energized. While indica and sativa used to be helpful plant classifications, today’s cannabis is so hybridized that those labels don’t reliably predict how you’ll feel anymore. Want to know what does?

<Terpenes enter the chat>

Terpenes are the aromatic compounds that give cannabis its smell and influence its effects.

We’d like to present a few exhibits for the jury:

TL;DR – Instead of always looking for indica or sativa products, ask our Budtenders what the terpene profile looks like. If you’re looking for deep relaxation or stress relief, look for myrcene or caryophyllene products. If you’re looking for improved focus or an elevated mood, look for pinene or limonene products.

Holding the Smoke in Gets You Higher

This myth has been around since Snoop Dogg was Snoop Pupp. We hate to break it to you, but your lungs are not a storage unit. THC is absorbed into your bloodstream almost immediately after inhalation. Holding the smoke longer doesn’t increase absorption, it just increases:

  • Coughing
  • Lung irritation
  • The dramatic pause between hits

That lightheaded feeling? Likely oxygen deprivation, not extra high. So after taking a toke, do your best wind impression and find comfort in never having to look like a red-faced puffer fish again.

High THC = Better High

It’s the cannamyth debunked that shocked the nation. We can hear the collective minds blowing now.

It’s true, higher THC does not necessarily mean a better, bigger high. Chasing THC percentages alone is like ordering the strongest cocktail without caring how it tastes, your level of intoxication, or how you’ll feel tomorrow.

In reality, a balanced cannabinoid and terpene profile often delivers a better, smoother, more enjoyable experience than THC alone. In other words, cannabis works best as a group project, not a solo act.

Think of it like a band:

  • THC = the lead singer
  • Terpenes = the instruments
  • Minor Cannabinoids (CBG, CBN, etc) = back up vocals

A singer alone is fine. A full band? Way better show and experience. So when you’re deciding between products, don’t choose solely on THC percentage. Look to make sure the whole band is in concert.

You Can’t Build a Tolerance

Au contraire, mon frère. You absolutely can build a tolerance. Regular use can make your endocannabinoid system (the body’s natural balance system) a little…less impressed.

If your favorite strain suddenly feels “meh”, it might be time for:

Your body likes variety. Your stash should too.

Everyone Who Uses Cannabis Gets High

If this were true, every CBD user would be accidentally glued to their couch. Spoiler alert: they are not. Cannabis isn’t a one-way ticket to outer space. A lot of people use it with both feet plated firmly on the ground. Cannabis, in low doses or non-intoxicating forms may help with:

  • Managing pain or inflammation
  • Supporting comfort during medical treatments
  • Taking the edge off of stress
  • Helping the body unwind without checking out

Products high in CBD, balanced ratios, or microdosed THC can offer support without the “oh shit, I’m hiiiiiiiigh” effect. Think of cannabis less like a party favor and more like a volume knob. Sometimes you barely crank it. Other times you turn it up to 11.

Not everyone is chasing a high, some people are just trying to feel human again.

Cannabis works best when curiosity and openness leads the way.

Ask questions. Explore terpenes. Rotate your stash. And remember, the best product isn’t the strongest one, it’s the one that fits your vibe, your body, and your adventures. When in doubt, our Budtenders are always happy to help you separate fact from folklore.

Many blessings and buds to you in 2026!
