Back to Basics: How to Dab
A step by step guide to dabbing
If you search, “how to dab” on the internet, you’ll discover two things: dabbing isn’t for beginners and dose smaller than you think (and then smaller than that.) While we agree with both of these tips, we want to do our part in demystifying it. If this is your first time dabbing, we recommend that you do it with someone who is experienced. So, give your super stoner friend a call and let’s do this thing!
Before we jump in, let’s define what dabbing and concentrates are.
- Dabbing is a method of consuming cannabis by heating and inhaling concentrated cannabis oil.
- Concentrates used for dabbing are extremely, well, concentrated. The majority of concentrates that we carry at Trove, range between 60-80% THC. The dense concentration of THC is why you only need a crumb size to heat!
You’ll want the following supplies:
- Mini propane torch (unless you are using an e-nail)
- Nail (remember it should be the same joint size as your rig)
- Dab rig
- Dabber
- Cannabis extract (i.e shatter, wax)
There are additional tools that you can use to dab, but these are the most essential! Feel free to ask your budtender any questions!
Dose Concentrate
Like we said earlier, and we’re saying it again, you only need a crumb size of concentrate! Make sure to look at the packaging to see what kind of THC % you’re working with for your shatter, wax, oil etc.
Heat the Nail
Using your propane mini torch, heat the nail by placing the flame directly to the nail. It will only take a few seconds before it turns red hot. You’ll let it cool anywhere from 10-40 seconds, depending on the material, before moving on to the next step.
Apply Concentrate
Here’s where the fun begins! Using your dabber, apply your concentrate directly onto the heated nail. Once you’ve applied the concentrate, slowly begin to inhale. As you inhale turn the rig so that all of your oil is put to good use. Now, if you are new to dabbing, we recommend sitting as you take the hit. Dabbing is a much different and stronger high that other methods – it will usually hit you faster. Take it easy and take it slow!
This week’s Back to Basics Challenge
Ask one of our Trove budtender’s which concentrates they would recommend and try something new. (Don’t forget – every Wednesday is 5% off or buy $40 & get 20% off concentrates!).
There are other methods, tips, and tricks, for dabbing that our budtenders would be happy to share with you the next time you visit us!
