Sometimes good things come in small packages…or doses, in this case. There’s a lot of buzz right now surrounding microdosing and we’d like to walk you through what it means to microdose cannabis. Whether you’re seasoned AF when it comes to ganja or a curious newcomer, microdosing cannabis has reshaped how we think about our favorite plant.
What is Microdosing
Microdosing is consuming a very small amount of something, usually a pharmaceutical, medicine or other drug, to test the effects on your body.
Microdosing cannabis is consuming cannabis in a very low dose to avoid the psychoactive “high” effects in favor of other benefits. A typical microdose of cannabis ranges between 1 – 2.5mg of THC. For reference, most single gummies and chocolate edibles in Washington state contain 10mg of THC.
Why Microdose Cannabis?
From enhancing your creativity to managing your pain, microdosing cannabis can have many benefits.
Let The Creativity Flow
Go from a skilled finger painter to Banksy with one dose! Okay, that might be an exaggeration, but many microdosers report an increase in creativity, focus, and workflow while tackling creative projects.
License to Chill
While some may experience an increase in anxiety with high doses of THC (or just by choosing the wrong terpene), microdosing tends to have the opposite effect. Microdosing can help calm your nerves, stay centered, and reduce the noise and paranoia in your noggin’.
Chronic for Chronic
According to the CDC, it is estimated that over 50 million adults in the United States experience chronic pain. That’s just too damn high! For those dealing with chronic pain, microdosing might offer you consistent relief for your pain while staying fully functional and alert.
Avoid a Case of the Mooddays
Lift your spirits the earthy way! Microdosing cannabis can help provide a gentle mood boost, making it easier to navigate daily stresses like a champ.
Dose and Doze
Not getting enough sleep can impact so many things; attention, learning, focus, mood, and physical health. “During sleep, your body is working to support healthy brain function and maintain your physical health,” according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Make microdosing your new bedtime buddy to help you unwind and drift off to a restful night’s sleep.
How to Microdose Cannabis
Here’s our BIG disclaimer; microdosing is not a one-size-fits all situation. Since no two bodies are alike, we strongly encourage you to start small and keep a log of dosages and effects.
Not sure where to start? Ask any of our Budtenders! We welcome all questions and have a variety of products to recommend within most budgets!
1. Pick the Right Product
Skip the flower and dabs here! Start with a low-dose edible or tincture.
One of our favorite low-dose edibles is Craft Elixirs’ Pioneer Squares. They are dee-lish and contain 1mg of THC and 10mg of CBD.
2. Start Slow and Go Slow
To find your personal sweet spot, start with 1mg of THC per day for a week and see how it affects you. If you don’t notice any improvements, up your dosage to 2mg of THC per day for another week. When you start feeling the benefits – without any “high” feeling – maintain that dosage.
3. Keep a Journal
Ugh, homework. Seriously though, DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP as it is so important to finding the right dosage for you. After each microdose, note the amount you took, the product, and how you feel. This will help you keep track of what works best for you and avoid overdoing it.
4. Be Patience
We live in a “NOW!” world where we want results immediately. You’ll have to channel your inner centered self here and practice some patience as microdosing is all about subtlety. Give yourself time to adjust and observe.
The Future of Wellness
Microdosing is more than just a trend; it’s a shift towards a more mindful and intentional way of using cannabis. By embracing this approach, you can integrate the benefits of cannabis into your daily routine without the psychoactive effects.
